The Ultimate Exfoliation Glambook!

The Ultimate Exfoliation Glambook!

We’ve come a long way from asking, “Who is the fairest of them all?”

We girls just wish for our natural skin to glow from the inside. And, while we’re playing the wishing game, it’ll be great if we get the glow with minimal effort.

I’ll say it’s a good day for us because guess what? The skincare Gods heard us and blessed us with... Exfoliation!!!

A simple, refreshing and cleansing skincare ritual that doesn’t take more than a few minutes. Just exfoliate before using facewash or bodywash and viola, your glowing self on the other side of the mirror cheers you all day long.

So, put on your Skin-Savant cap and let’s get into the glowy details. 🌟

Wait... What’s Exfoliation, anyway? 🤔

Before we get ahead, if you are wondering “What in the world is exfoliation?!” We’ve got you.

Essentially, exfoliation helps your skin get rid of oil, dust and grime and shed the sad dead skin cells that live rent-free on it. You know, like that relative who overstays their welcome at family functions. 😂

We can’t do anything about Suman Aunty, but we call the shots when it comes to our skin.

Note - A question that may occur to you is about scrubbing. How is it any different? Technically speaking, it is the same as skin exfoliation. However, there’s a tad bit of difference that we will explore in some time when we talk about scrubbers. ‍♀️

So, Like... What’s the Importance of Exfoliating? 🧖‍♀️

Have you ever felt like all the problems in life come from dull and sad-looking skin? 😳

For instance, remember how you didn’t nail that important presentation because those zits made you feel super underconfident?. Oh, and that bad date when the skin wasn’t skinning! And when...

Yeah, let’s stop the downward spiral because you get the point, right?

And that’s why today’s topic of admiration is our cherished bestie... Our SKIN. 🥰 Interestingly, what we generally refer to as the skin is the supple, soft top-most layer—the epidermis.

We promise this ain’t gonna be a Bio lecture, just stay with us, okay?

The top layer is dotted with millions of teeny-tiny pores that expel toxins, sweat, and dead skin cells. This keeps the skin fresh.

However, the outermost layer often is exposed to dirt, makeup etc. This hinders the deep cleaning process, and results in clogged pores. Eventually when things are outta control, many issues like breakouts, early aging signs, and that dreaded dullness start showing up. 😱

So, what’s the fix? You know it... Just exfoliate. 😊 ✨

Breaking Down Exfoliators: The Basics 🧐

Now that we have explored the importance of exfoliating the skin, let’s understand how to pick the right exfoliator.

Like all good things, there’s no one-size-fits-all. Thus, all exfoliators come in different shapes and compositions. Here’s a categorized summary of what exfoliators you can go for. But remember, whatever you choose—listen to your skin.

Physical Exfoliators

This is like picking up the broom and mop and doing a surface-level cleanup. This hands-on approach removes the impurities from the skin using friction to tackle your issues.

Natural Scrubbers: All-time Favourites

We have been doing physical exfoliation for years now. Shout out to the good old body scrubbing gear: loofahs and foot brushes. People sometimes also use raw sugar scrub, a natural body exfoliating scrub where the slightly abrasive sugar particles do the trick. But, one must remember it may scratch the skin or make it dry so it’s best to use it with a moisturizing agent like honey. Remember that you’ve gotta be very gentle with exfoliators like these.

Face & Body Exfoliators: Most Convenient

You can also use a good scrubber with ingredients that scrub and hydrate simultaneously. Generally, they are also very gentle on the skin. A dollop or two on the loofah will foam up and be enough for your whole body. For the face we have dedicated face scrubbers that target the same problems but in an even gentler way.

Chemical Exfoliators

It’s no surprise that sometimes we need more than just physical exfoliators. Like dealing with stubborn spots and blemishes or even persistent pigmentation. So then, it’s ideal to go for chemical exfoliators that chemically treat these issues.

An example of this is Salicylic acid which penetrates deeper into pores, effectively treating and preventing acne. It helps to reduce inflammation and unclog pores. Chemical exfoliation for the face is common but is equally important for your body. It helps with problems like back acne and selective pigmentation.

One caveat here is the presence of the non-biodegradable beads in some products.

But what other option do we have, you ask? Well...

We are happy to tell you that our Adigo Swoop Face Scrub has all–natural ingredients like biodegradable cellulose beads, flaxseed meal powder and apricot oil. It also has salicylic acid in the mix. One can say it has the best of both worlds.

Microdermabrasion and Dermaplaning

Commonly known as Microderm, Microdermabrasion addresses issues like dull complexion, blackheads, uneven skin tones, etc. and gives an instant glow. Dermaplaning is similar but targets scarring. These are fancy spa treatments that give your skin a super smooth finish. While it’s not very affordable (ahem ahem... we’re talking 15 grands a session.) But it is absolutely magical. It’s how your favourite celebs and some influencers get that “I just came back from vacation” glow from just a 40 mins session.

Benefits of Exfoliation You Can’t Ignore!

You’ve seen that exfoliation is important. To the point, you can’t miss out on this step in your skincare. But once you start and religiously follow through, exfoliating your skin every day promises umpteen benefits. Here’s how your skin thanks you for the minimal effort:

Glass skin is no more just a filter:

Once you get rid of those pesky li’l dead skin cells and all that build-up, you get fresh, glowing skin underneath. Just a few mins of cleaning up and viola, you become a bedazzling queen!

Let the allies in! 🤩

When you exfoliate, you’re essentially clearing the ground for skincare to follow. Your beloved serums and creams can now sow in the nourishing goodness. And, you know what? There are fewer chances of irritation because there is nothing between the products and the skin.

Your skin will do the rest

Another interesting result of exfoliating regularly is the impact it has on your skin underneath the epidermis. As you scrub or massage the products, the blood rushes to the surface nourishing your skin from the inside. In a sense, you are triggering an internal cleaning mechanism.

We’re talking long term magic:

Another benefit of sticking to an exfoliating ritual in the long term is that blood supply activates the process of collagen production and speeds up cell turnover. Why is that important, you ask? See collagen is the warrior protein that keeps your skin elasticity in check. Helping to smooth out those fine lines and lighten those stubborn acne scars. Who wouldn’t want that?!
